You probably know at least one workaholic, right? At least one. Workaholics spend most of their waking hours working or thinking about work – sometimes to the exclusion of all else. Most of them don’t do it for the money, either – they do it for the pleasure and sense of accomplishment it brings them. They do it because they love what they do, and it can be difficult to pull yourself away from something you truly love doing.
As moms, we deserve to build lives with that same kind of genuine authenticity and joy – although, you might want to strive for better work/life balance. My point is that you deserve to live for YOU as much as you live for your children! How do you do that?
Listen to that still, small voice in your head. Explore the deepest reaches of your heart and soul and start to hone in on who you really are and who you really want to be. Your children may be your main focus right now, but if you lose sight of who you are, you won’t know who to be when they become adults and start pursing their own dreams and ambitions.
When you get transparent and genuinely tune in to who you really are, you’ll make yourself happier, and that’s bound to make your family and friends happier, too. Being true to you is essential. It’s amazing and freeing and leads to a happy, joyful life. Also, when you get down to the nitty-gritty of who you are, you learn how to appreciate yourself, set boundaries that respect who you are, set goals that contribute to your personal growth and development, and experience a freedom like no other.
In the hustle and bustle of being a mom, it can be easy to neglect self-care. Guard diligently against letting that happen because the first ingredient in being a good mom is being a good you.
