Between the requirements of business and career, parenting, housework, laundry, helping with homework, extra-curricular activities, and maintaining a healthy relationship with your spouse or partner, it’s easy to feel like your battery is drained at the end of a long day. When those long days add up and become weeks and then months and then years, it’s easy to start overlooking that drained feeling.
But, just like the smartphone that keeps you connected to the world and to the people you love needs daily charging, so do you. Here are five simple ways you can recharge your battery and be a more fully charged mom today than you were yesterday:
1. Disconnect from all those demands and do something just for you. You’ll be happier and, even if they can’t voice it, your kids will appreciate the difference between drained mom and fully charged mom.
2. Read a good book that has absolutely no business, parenting, or socially redeeming value at all. Choose a good, steamy romance or a suspenseful murder mystery or your favorite sci-fi novel. Just make sure the book you choose is for pleasure only.
3. Take a long, quiet walk while listening to your favorite music. Take deep breaths, enjoy the momentary solitude, and indulge in the beauty of nature.
4. Pick up your favorite journal and pour your frustrations down on paper. Let it ease your tensions and usher you into a more serene state of mind.
5. Take a long, hot bubble bath. Treat yourself and use your best bath salts or something bath bombs, and float your cares away. You’ll emerge physically and mentally rejuvenated.
Remember that recharging your batteries is mandatory, not optional. Make self-care a priority and you’ll be a more energized, more rejuvenated mom. Taking time to reinvigorate yourself will make you feel replenished enough to get back to being the best mom you can be.
